Fall Feels With Mustard Seed Yellow

There isn't any other color that quite ushers in feelings of Autumn, falling leaves, cozy sweaters and riding boots like Mustard Seed Yellow.

It's a rich and warm yellow that pairs well with warm wood tones, boxwood greens, orange accents, cotton wreaths and anything metal. That's exactly why I decided to use it on my latest piece.

This chest of three drawers is the companion piece to the green cottage washstand that I finished a few weeks ago. Notice the same shape and hardware?

The washstand was in much better shape than the dresser. Several of the drawers needed structural repairs and there were two 1/4" wide holes in the top that had been drilled clean through. I have no idea why because they were off to the side and wouldn't have been used to hold a mirror. So, I enlisted the help of a local carpenter/wood worker to repair the issues while I worked on other pieces.

It has the same fabulous gatored texture that looks so fabulous painted in Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint.

This chippy spot on the top left corner made me extra happy.

I went a bit heavier in my distressing than usual, but this piece can handle a chippy rustic look. If anything, the lines of it compliment this type of finish. I sealed the MMS Milk Paint with Hemp Oil. Not only did it make the color of the milk paint get deeper and richer, it hydrated the wood I exposed with my distressing, creating a lovely contrast.

The hardware is original and I particularly like how this one isn't perfect. It's cocked to the side, adding to its aged charm.

Yesterday, I did some antique shopping and I picked up this vintage metal battery operated lamp.

It doesn't work anymore, but it adds great texture, don't you think? I set it on top of some old books I've had for a while. The bottom book is Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress".

I also picked up this wooden spool and Big Ben alarm clock.

I'm not sure where this piece is going to head. Both of my retail spaces are pretty full, but I'm leaning towards Morgantown Market. If you're interested in it now, please send me an email and I'd be happy to provide measurements and a price.
