Addicted to Sewing Tables

Hello everyone. My name is Jenn Baker and I have a love affair with sewing tables.

I don't remember when it started exactly.

But I think I can safely say that I'm addicted to finding sewing tables.....

and turning them into jewelry storage pieces.

It's been a few months since my last project and I've been itching to do another one. Those I've completed in the past have turned out so cute!

(And can I just say that my photography has come a long way since I've worked on some of these!)

I'll even take them if they hang on a wall!

This one was by far, the coolest piece I've ever found.

Now that my confession is out of the way, I feel safe enough to share that I have found and rehabbed yet another sewing table!

I found this little guy when I was out picking with Marian (aka Miss Mustard Seed) during her latest visit to her family back here in Pennsylvania.

It was so much fun watching Marian pick through antiques and zero in on things I would have never noticed. It didn't take me long to spy this vintage sewing table though. This is one piece I didn't need help finding! The price was very reasonable and I thought the shape was lovely. Those skinny legs and curved top won me over immediately.

Once I had the time to start working on it, I gave it a good cleaning on the inside. There were plenty of spider webs and lots of dust to clean away. When you lift up the top, there is an assortment of hooks for spools of thread up underneath.

Some of the original wooden dowels and spools were still in the table, so I kept them! All of this was so dusty and very worn down, so I used some of Miss Mustard Seed's Hemp Oil to shine everything up.

Hemp Oil works wonders on dry wood and metal.

When it came time to paint the piece, I didn't want to use white because I thought the original finish might bleed through. I was torn between a beautiful greige called "Schloss"

and the always peppy and cheerful Eulalie's Sky.

The cow that the color description is referring to is right here. This is THE Eulalie.

While I knew the Schloss would be a lovely color that could fit any home decor, Eulalie's Sky is always a good seller for me. Anytime I paint a piece in that color, it doesn't take very long to find a new home. So I went with a safe bet and decided to pep up the piece with this lovely vintage aqua.

I didn't want to keep those original square knobs because I personally felt they were very dated, but I did a quick poll on my Instagram stories and the majority of people voted to keep them. Plus, when I tried to remove the knobs, they would not come off unless I chipped at them because they were both glued and screwed on.

Okay little table...you win.

The Milk Paint chipped just a bit here and there, but not too much because I scuff-sanded this piece before painting it. It's mostly full coverage with distressing around the edges.

Now to the inside! When you lift up the lid, there's all of those lovely hooks hidden up underneath.

If you wanted to hang some necklaces there, all you'd have to do is remove one of the spools.

Grab your favorite necklace.

And let her hang! Now when you close the lid, the necklace may fall off, so I'm not completely sure how you'd go about stabilizing it. Perhaps this would be a piece you keep open all the time?

Now in addition to those hooks, there's also a lift-out drawer with lots of compartments. It's perfect for storing (everyone say it with me) jewelry!

It lifts away revealing access to the inside of the first drawer.

I love the little tiny pegs along the front. They're perfect for holding rings. This one happens to be my wedding ring. It's a pink sapphire with teeny diamonds around it. The band is rose gold.

Marc bought it for me from an Etsy shop called "Eidel Precious" located in Toronto, Canada. Eidel was the name of the owner's grandmother, which touched my heart because I was very close to my grandmother. It's also fitting because we honeymooned in Canada, making our way from Quebec City to Montreal and finishing in Toronto! (Marc also plays hockey so we basically went to the motherland.)

Now that I've allowed my wedding ring to get us completely side-tracked, let's get back to the sewing table at hand, shall we?

As you can see, there are lots of places to keep your goodies. Now if you're a sewer and you'd rather use this for storing those types of supplies, feel free! I thought about staging this piece both ways, but I don't really have enough sewing supplies to stage the piece properly. Now jewelry is a different story...

What's nice about this table is that you can prop the lid up and the catch will hold it in place for you. To put the lid back down, just push the catch in and it will release the lid.
