Aviary Table & Brass Bed
The Spring Barn Market at Pheasant Run Antiques and Homestead Studios is nine days away. I'm wrapping up furniture projects, pricing my small items, stocking up on bags and wrapping supplies and reserving a moving truck for the day.
As these final preparations are being organized, I have two more furniture projects to share with you. One was a quick and easy makeover. The second is a fun piece that was given to me and I'd like to pass the gift on to you!
Let's start with this enamel top table.
I purchased this piece already painted in a lovely light gray color. It had a wooden knob and the paint job was pretty nice. I wanted to darken it a bit, so I painted over it with the newest color in the Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint collection, Aviary.
Aviary is a gorgeous smokey blue gray that takes on different looks, depending on what's around it. It will lean more gray when it's around a lot of blues, and it will lean blue when it's around a lot of grays. It's a gorgeous color to work with because it's subtle but intense.
I applied two coats of Aviary on my table and sealed it with Tough Coat for durability.
I swapped out the original wooden knob with my favorite Embossed Glass Drum Knob from Rustic Brands.
I used the same knob on my recent Mustard Seed Yellow Empire Dresser too.
They are a lovely option to choose if you're in the market for a vintage style glass knob, and Rustic Brands is a wonderful choice of hardware provider if you're looking to add a collection to your retail space.
I had a tough time staging this little table. It seemed like everything I picked out of my stash just didn't feel right. First I tried this combination:
And then I thought the cow wall art was detracting from the table, so I took it away.
Then I backed up and took a wider shot that was less close up.
Then I thought having all of the items on one side was too off balance, so I added a clock and moved the flowers.
Then I tried a whole new combination all together. I swapped the cow for a cotton wreath and added some more brown in the mix to match the branches of the wreath.
And then I opted for a clean look and got rid of the smalls altogether.
I'll let you choose which look you like best! I couldn't settle on one, so I tried a bunch! The enamel top is in great shape. I gave it a cleaning with some Barkeeper's Friend.
There are some discolored and rusty spots, but overall, it's vintage and lovely.
This little guy is coming with me to the Spring Barn Market. It will be available for $80 and it measures 27" wide, 22" deep and 29.5" tall. If you'd like to see Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in action, I'll be doing a FREE demonstration in the afternoon around 1:00. I'll also be bringing my stock of MMSMP, including Aviary, so you can buy product while you're there as well.
All of the smalls are coming too, including the cow! I'll have a few pieces of cow wall art for you to choose from, so if you think they're adorable like I do, you'll be quite happy!
In other news, my neighbor gave me a gorgeous brass plated bed.
It's solid and has an amazing vintage patina to it. I rubbed it down with some Hemp Oil and staged it in my living room for some quick photos. We've had a string of windy and rainy days here in PA, so I had to resort to bringing it inside.
My Dad helped me cut wooden slats for the frame.
I had intentions of staging this with gorgeous linens for the Spring Barn Market, but I don't have a spare mattress. This bed is an XL full sized bed. It's 53.5" wide and 80" long. I kicked around the idea of buying a mattress and boxspring, but everyone has different preferences when it comes to the firmness of a mattress. I have an inflatable mattress, but it needs a boxspring to sit on, and with the market being nine days away, I thought I would let the buyer of the bed pick out a mattress for themselves.
So, this bed is officially available to be purchased. I don't have a specific price in mind, so make me an offer! Any reasonable amounts will be considered and the first person to schedule a pickup with me will get the bed. I'd rather sell it before the market than take it, but if I don't have a buyer by the 28th, then it will come on the truck.
So, if you're looking to add solid vintage charm to your home, make me an offer I can't refuse!
Here are some inspirational photos from Pinterest to give you an idea of what you could do with a bed like this:
Brass looks amazing when paired with navy.

Here's another option - compliment the warmth of brass with a chandelier and natural wood tones.

Or go all out with white linens and lace. It's such a romantic look!

I did a preliminary search online for XL full mattress sets and they are available. You could also do a full size mattress, but they only come to 75" long, so you'd have some room at the foot of the bed. If you drape your comforter over the edge and add a bedskirt though, you'd never see those extra 4 or 5 inches.
