Vintage Eulalie's Sky Side Table

This adorable vintage side table caught my eye as soon as I saw it.

It was just inside the entrance to an antique shop, and it was the first piece I brought up to the front when I was creating my pile of goodies. It wound up being one of about 5 tables I bought that day! It was a boring old brown and it was rather dirty, but that didn't bother me at all! It was sturdy and in great shape. Once I got it home, I promptly gave it a thorough cleaning. As I was deciding on a color, my thoughts settled on the cheerful greenish blue of Eulalie's Sky.

This color immediately makes me happy the minute I mix it up. It was the perfect color choice for my little table, and the surface painted up like a champ.

If you look closely, you can see that the piece has some texture to it.

That's because it was wrapped in some sort of fabric. I've never seen it on a piece I've worked on, but I have seen it on pieces that were in the home of my grandparents.

It took two coats of Eulalie's Sky to cover, and I didn't wind up distressing the piece. I thought it looked perfect with full-coverage. To make sure it was sealed for high-traffic use, I used Miss Mustard Seed's Tough Coat as my topcoat of choice.

See the lighter strip on the inside of the drawer? That's where the fabric was wrapped. As a test, I removed it from the drawer to see how easy it would come off. It did give with some coaxing, but the adhesive underneath was very crunchy and scratchy. I wound up having to sand the drawer to get it smooth, and I didn't think it would be a good idea to remove the fabric from the entire piece. Plus, it painted so well, so why bother?

The drawer was very dry, so I used Hemp Oil to revive it and give it some much-needed hydration. I also used it to shine up the wheels. That, and a good shot of WD-40 got them back into working order! Now they spin and pivot like the first day they were put on.

The table came with a wooden knob, but I wanted to give a nod to its vintage shape and construction, so I used a clear glass knob instead.

I have been picking up ironstone in my travels, so I thought it would be cute to stage the table with an assortment of my favorites.

This little piece has my heart. It's got the cutest crackles and chips on it.

Plus, the top has little flowers painted on the rim. How sweet are they?

This is a shaving mug I picked up at the same place I got the Eulalie's Sky table. The handle caught my eye first.

Then it was the hallmark on the bottom. I like how it's misplaced off to the side. It reminds me that things don't have to be perfect to be lovely.

This little side table will be coming with me to the Food for Families Fundraiser this coming Friday and Saturday.
