Upholstered Chair

Work is finished on my newest upholstered piece of furniture, and I'm so excited to share it with you!

This pretty chair was quite the project and I learned some new skills during the upholstery process.

I acquired the chair from one of the dealers at Cricket's Antiques and Garden Market. I got a text with a photo on my phone from Cricket. She said something to the effect of, "I thought you could do something with this." Boy was she right!

Work began with the tear down process. The chair had a leather vinyl on the back and a shiny contemporary zebra striped fabric on the seat. It didn't stay there long. The foam underneath was in really good shape, so I saved it and started painting the frame.

My color choice was "Coco" by Annie Sloan. I wanted something soft and subtle that would compliment my linen fabric. To soften the Coco a bit more, I topped it with some of Miss Mustard Seed's White Wax. (Yes, you can use Miss Mustard Seed's waxes on top of chalk-type paints!) The result was beautiful!

Using a colored wax on pieces with carved details is always a good choice. The white wax nestled into the recessed grooves and channels perfectly.

The patterns on this chair are so dreamy, aren't they?

This photo is my absolute favorite out of all the shots I got today. Isn't it so sweet? That little leaf in the foreground made me so happy when I saw it.

Once the frame was painted and waxed, I set about putting the chair back together and covering it with the same linen fabric I used on my mini settee.

The back was the trickiest part. I had one inset ledge to staple two layers of fabric and foam to, which was quite challenging. I had to pull out some staples and redo certain sections a few times before I got it right.

I used a rope trim around the edges, and I like how it offers a casual contrast to the stately size and shape of the chair.

While the chair is on the wider side, it doesn't have a large profile view. Despite its slender side view, it's plenty comfortable!

It turned out so well and I'm quite happy with its new look. It's quite the transformation from shiny zebra striped fabric and nailhead trim, wouldn't you say?
