Another Crackled Nightstand
This little nightstand belonged to my Poppy. It had been sitting unused in his basement since he and my Grandmother moved in with my parents several years ago.
I remember it being in their bedroom whenever I would come to visit them in Maryland. Now that both of my grandparents have passed, the time has come for their things to find new life.
Because it had been sitting in the basement for years, it was really dusty and dirty. I gave it a simple wipe-down with a damp paper towel.
The stain on this piece was an intense orange-red so I applied two coats of Miss Mustard Seed's Tough Coat.
Tough Coat is a fantastic sealer and can be used to prevent strong stains like this from bleeding through your paint job. My plan was to paint this nightstand in Farmhouse White, so making sure the stain was sealed in was priority one.
Tough Coat has a matte finish so if you wanted to use it as a topcoat, there would be no shine on your finished piece.
Tough Coat also creates a surface that MMS Milk Paint can adhere to. This nightstand was glossy and smooth, so painting right over that with nothin in between would equate to intense chipping and potential bleed-through.
As I was painting, I was so pleased with how easily the Milk Paint was painting on.
It was really humid on the day I was painting, so as each coat of Farmhouse White was drying, crackles started appearing across the surface.
It took three coats total to get full-coverage and I sealed it up with Hemp Oil.
This piece crackled just the way that my other nightstand did!
The crackles on this piece are a bit larger.
So now I have a matching set! The Marshmallow and I will deliver them soon. For now, I'm fighting a cold and I've been burning the proverbial candle at both ends for a while. I think I'm overdue for some down time.
