Ask Eight Hundred - Episode 1
Well, here's the first of hopefully many episodes of "Ask Eight Hundred"! I received a question on my Instagram feed regarding the steps that you should take when you complete a furniture makeover. What do you do first, second, third?
The answer to that question depends on a lot of variables, but to keep it simple, I've broken it down into 3 easy steps.
I've also written a blog post on the same topic, which you can read here.
If you're going to be stripping the top of a piece of furniture, such as a dresser, and refinishing it, then I highly recommend prepping your piece and stripping the top first. That way, if you dribble any stripper onto the body of your piece, it won't ruin your paint job. You can just wipe it off and keep going. After a piece is stripped, I stain it and then proceed with painting. I topcoat everything together - whatever I use for the top goes over my stain, and whatever goes on top of the paint goes next.
You can read my blog post about stripping and staining wood here.
