A Hemp Oiled Vintage Wagon

Every time I visit Strasburg, I make sure to make a loop and hit all of my favorite spots. It starts with a coffee from Java Junction, then I skip across the street to Blue Dandelion by Tiffany. After drooling over the beautiful furniture and eye candy inside, I visit a handful of vintage stores in the area. On my last trip, I scored this adorable vintage red wagon.

The patina on this sweet piece was wonderful but the wood was so dried out that its true beauty was hard to see.

I bought this piece with every intention of bringing it back to life with Miss Mustard Seed's Hemp Oil. This stuff is liquid gold. I buy it by the GALLON because I use it so often. (No joke.)

Hemp Oil is a fantastic alternative to using Furniture Wax on painted pieces. It deepens the color of Milk Paint like none other and it's even food safe, so it works great on wooden bowls, spoons, and bread boards.

I like to pour mine into a separate container so I don't contaminate my main supply. I use either a paintbrush or a foam applicator to brush it on.

I started on the sides of the wagon first, because they would have the most dramatic transformation. I was so eager to see how they would revive, and I was treated to a feast for the eyes. Just look at how the original red paint pops with one swipe of oil!

Before, you couldn't even tell that there was a "RADIO" logo on the side. Now it's definitely there for all to see.

The wood on the bottom of the wagon came to life as well. I love how the details in the grain came out from hiding.

Even the wheels got a treatment! Here's the before:

I wiped down the handle and the hitch? Axel? Front? I'm not expert on wagon parts, but the picture speaks for itself.

When it was time to stage, I grabbed one of my Citrus Eucalyptus wreaths that just arrived in my latest shipment. I think these are a fantastic alternative to traditional evergreen wreaths for the holidays. The color is an incredible vibrant green and because they are preserved, they'll last for years! Just give them a spritz of water every month and they're good to go.

I piled some firewood in the wagon and wheeled it underneath the wreath for a cute little vignette.

Doesn't it look like it just came in from picking up firewood at the barn?
