New Colors, New Projects, New Collaborations

I've been refinishing and painting furniture for 4 going on 5 years. Despite all of the projects I have completed, I still haven't used every color in Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint line or Annie Sloan's Chalk Paint® line. Any chance I get to use a new color = party time in Eight Hundred Furniture world.

Last week, my Mom and I scoped out a new source for furniture. The place was packed with lots of viable candidates but my apartment was already overrun with pieces at the time so I had to restrain myself. (Booooo.) There were a lot of contenders for the bed of my truck, but in the end, three lucky winners made the trip home, including a beautiful tiger oak vanity.

I have been waiting for just the right piece to come along so I could try Marzipan in the Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint line. The time had finally come to mix some up!

Not only was I stoked to transform the vanity, but I was going to be able to check off another color from my "I-haven't-used-these-colors-on-a-piece-yet" list (which may or may not actually exist).

What do you think?

The original finish on the top of the vanity was crackling and peeling. I stripped it with some CitriStrip and gave it a light hand sanding. After that, the only other product I applied was good 'ol Hemp Oil.

I was torn about whether I should stain the wood or leave it natural, and I decided to let it be what it is.

The Marzipan Milk Paint went on really chippy at first. I used some Tough Coat to seal in the really bad spots, and layered on some more coats of Marzipan to cover up the "bald" areas.

Now it has the perfect amount of chipping. Not too much, not too little.

The original knobs on the drawer were round, wood, plain, and ::yawn:: boring. I went back and forth about keeping them because I couldn't find a suitable replacement. In the end, I opted for these pretty clear knobs that I snagged from my local True Value Hardware Store. (I'm a lucky girl because I have not one, but TWO privately owned hardware stores right down the road from me!)

My favorite part of this piece is the 3-paned mirror. Even when the original hardware was tightened to its limit, the mirror wobbled back and forth pretty badly, so I screwed on some brackets to add extra support. Now it's not going anywhere!

The middle pane is fixed, but the two sides can either fold in or be pushed back so they're parallel with the middle. (Does that make sense?) I know I've used our bathroom mirror like this from time to time because, let's face it...a girl needs to see the back of her hair every now and then!

Can you see Marc's leg in the reflection? It's super hard to photograph mirrors, which is why most of my pictures in this post are taken on an angle. I tried to make sure everything was out of way, but the Flyers were on. My hockey-loving husband had claimed the couch for the night and I was happy that we were in the same room doing what we love.

This piece went in the Marshmallow (my truck) this morning along with my Grain Sack farm table and the Shutter Gray dresser.

Once all of my pretties were strapped in, we took a trip down to Consign-It Furniture in Kennett Square. I recently started partnering with them and am proud to share that my pieces will now be on their sales floor! Woot woot!

I can't express how wonderful it has been to work with Consign-It Furniture, Morgantown Market, and Rooted. I'm so blessed to be a part of the furniture painting community in my area, and even more excited to watch these business relationships grow in the future.

Cheers to new colors, new projects, and new collaborations!
