Favorites and the Red Bomb Diggity
There are a few special things that I have a soft spot in life.
Cows are definitely at the top.
Cats are pretty awesome too.
...especially mine...
My husband is definitely a favorite as well.
He's so handsome.
Sigh.
I also have a soft spot for Fall. The leaves changing color, cool days with a sunny sky, and my favorite skinny jeans with boots bring such joy to my heart. No more sweating, running the air conditioning, or suntan lotion. No more tank tops, flip flops, or shorts (as if I ever wear them).
I'm all about that change of seasons!
So, to usher it in sooner than later, I decided to give this oak washstand an Autumn-inspired makeover.
Pretty, right?
To begin, I stripped the top and sanded it down. I applied some of Annie Sloan's Dark Soft Wax® directly to the raw wood - no Clear Soft Wax in between.
To make painting a bit easier, I propped this little guy up on painter's triangles.
I cracked open a can of the most deliciously Fall color I could find,
and put two coats on.
What a nice improvement!
After some clear and dark waxing, here is another thing to add to my list of favorites:
This pretty guy wears red like a boss.
This is probably the coolest aspect of working on older furniture. The more texture the original finish has, the neater it looks painted. Scout out those "gatored" pieces the next time you go furniture hunting. It's worth it!
So perfect!
Oh little guy, you're the bomb diggity.
Cheers to Fall, everyone!
