A Taste of Fall With Autumn
In the shop, we have two parakeets named Waffles and Jam. Perhaps you've met them during a shop visit or heard them chirping in the background during some of my videos? Up until recently, Waffles and Jam's cage sat on the cutest little wash stand.
The cutest little unpainted wash stand.
(You see where this is going, don't you?)
A few days ago, I abruptly unseated the birds from their wooden throne and relocated them (much to their protest).
After I cleaned off the feathers and swept the birdseed out of the inside, the wash stand received a full-blown Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint makeover. The top was stripped, sanded, and stained while the body was painted in her namesake color, Mustard Seed Yellow.
Everything was sealed with hemp oil and this piece just invites Fall to come early. Here in Pennsylvania, the temperatures have been super oppressive. The heat and humidity are completely stifling and my heart longs for cool days, pumpkin spice, and crunchy leaves. I want to wear sweaters and jeans instead of sleeveless shirts and flip flops.
Can I get an Amen?
To compliment the Fall look, Natasha generously let me use some of her porcelain knobs that were still in the original packaging from Sears.
I just love these little guys.
Best of all, when I was painting this piece and wet-sanding it, I got some natural crazing, chipping and distressing.
It all adds to the utilitarian charm of this simple little girl.
Love those original wood casters!
The top of the piece refinished beautifully as well.
In honor of her coloring, the longing for cooler temperatures, and because I just want to stick my tongue out at Summer, I have named her "Autumn".
Bring on Fall!
