Lucketts 2016
My weekend is all wrapped up in Lucketts. As I was packing this morning, I realized that I hardly posted about the Spring Market itself - which is the primary reason why I made the trip in the first place!
Before I talk about this year's Market, let's revisit last year. When I walked in, I was completely starry eyed and couldn't get enough of the furniture, the people, the sheer size of the Market, and the area in general. I drank in every detail and being a vendor selling pieces of my own seemed so far-fetched and unattainable. I visited on a Sunday after I had finished my Inductive Bible Study Leader Training at McLean Bible Church. The weather was sunny and perfect. I met Marian Parsons of Miss Mustard Seed and Kriste Janczyk of Rosemary & Thyme for the first time. I couldn't believe they actually talked to me! We prayed for my future and thanked God for our talent for allowing us to meet. It was wonderful.
This year's visit was a bit different. I wasn't so star struck because I felt like I actually belonged among the people there. It didn't seem so far-fetched me to be the owner under the tent. I found myself actually longing to tell visitors about my pieces, how I painted it, the technique I used, and the story behind every curated treasure.
When I stopped by the Mustard Seed tent, I was greeted as a friend instead of a visitor. I took a walk with Kriste around the tents and we caught up on the year. Even though we don't hang out all the time, she still feels like a kindred spirit (in a younger body).
I strolled around the tents looking more for inspiration than things to purchase. What colors are people using? What are the design trends? Where did you find that piece? Tell me how you painted this one.
I was drawn to textures and layers.
Little details.
And inspirational sayings.
I bought this sweet bracelet.
The weather was fantastic on Friday but it rained all day Saturday. Today (Sunday) was actually cancelled due to flooding. On Saturday, the parking field turned to mud and I actually had to get towed to the exit by an obliging back hoe. I wasn't surprised that they packed it up a day early.
Overall, the trip to Lucketts this year was...well...I actually struggled to find the word all day.
Tangible?
Closer to home.
(not literally)
Possible
Yeah, that's the one.
I'll end on that note.
