Chickens, Cats, and the Farm
I'm down in cozy Lucketts, Virginia for the annual Lucketts Spring Market. For accommodations this year, I wanted to support a local business instead of a big hotel chain. After an internet search, I discovered quaint Faith Like A Mustard Seed Farm...a whopping 2 minutes away (if that!) from the Spring Market!
I couldn't have chosen a better spot. This farm is a real working farm complete with chickens, cows (that I'm going to steal), pigs, horses, barn cats (that I might also steal), guinea hens, geese, and one gorgeous turkey appropriately named Tom.
Let me give you the tour.
First, the birds.
These guys have it made.
Sun, grass, bugs...what more could a chicken want?
All of these pretties hang out together roaming the property.
But they don't like coffee.
You talking to me?
Guess what? Chicken butt!
I spy with my little eyes...
Now everyone say hello to Tom. This guy is just stunning. Can you see his beard below his neck? That tells you how old he is. When he walks, his feathers drag on the ground and make a handsome scraping noise. No sneaking up on anyone for this guy.
Moving on to the adorably affectionate barn cats.
I don't know names, but there's this love bug who is currently curled up on my lap in the cottage.
And this pretty guy.
Most of the time they get along. Except when fence post room is in short supply.
They do what cats do. Catting around.
Stalking birds.
Overall, life is good.
Here's the main house. My cottage is off to the left. You can read about the history on their website. Don't you feel transported back in time?
So many small things to appreciate.
And big things.
And barn things.
Sorry Marc, I'm not coming home.
I'll introduce the cows tomorrow.
Disclaimer: I'm officially obsessed with them.
