My First Dresser
I've refinished a lot of pieces - bookshelves, end tables, coffee tables, cabinets, chairs, lamps, picture frames, clocks, etc.
Out of all of those projects, I've never done a dresser.
Seriously. Never.
When I stumbled upon this beauty at my local Habitat for Humanity Restore for $25, I had to jump at the opportunity to bring her back to life.
She's pretty beat up at the moment.
The wood is chipping away on the drawers...
oh, and on the sides too.
Not to mention she's really dirty. See the big swatch I wiped away?
With all of these obvious flaws, most people have walked right by her, but not me! I saw potential.
Look past the flaws and see the hidden beauty that's there.
The details on the drawer fronts.
You just don't see details like those anymore on today's pre-fabricated, machine-made, mass-produced, particle board, run of the mill furniture.
The drawers have dovetail joints.
And the turned legs are stunning with the original casters still attached.
And the top has beautiful wood peeking through the peeling paint. I can't wait to strip this and scrape off the years of neglect.
The crown jewel is the carved detail that runs along the back of the dresser. It's my favorite part!
So stay tuned. This one's going to be a stunner!
